Written in plain language. CineTrail is an independent project — this policy reflects what we actually do, not what a legal template requires us to say we might do.
CineTrail collects the minimum information needed to operate the service. When you sign in with Google or another OAuth provider via NextAuth, we store your provider ID and email address in Firebase Firestore solely to associate your watch-progress data with your account. We do not store your password (OAuth providers handle authentication).
If you use the contact form, the name, email address, subject, and message you provide are sent directly to CineTrail via EmailJS and are not stored in any database on our servers.
Your account information (provider ID and email) is used only to maintain your personal library — the list of movies you have unlocked. We do not sell, rent, or share this information with third parties for marketing purposes.
We use an AI model (Google Gemini via the Google Generative AI) to generate narrations like plot summaries, character analyses, and movie reviews. When a movie page is loaded or a narration is requested, movie metadata is sent to Google's API to produce that narration. No personal account data is included in these requests.
CineTrail uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are visited, how long people spend on them, and where traffic comes from. Google Analytics collects data such as your approximate location (country/city level), browser type, device type, and referring URL. This data is aggregated and used only to improve the product. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
User library data is stored in Google Firebase Firestore (a cloud database operated by Google). Firebase is governed by Google's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Data stored in Firestore is limited to your provider ID, email address, and the list of movies you have interacted with. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us — see the contact section below.
CineTrail integrates with the following external services:
OMDB API — Movie metadata (titles, posters, release years). No personal data is sent.
Google Generative AI — Plot summary, character analysis, and review generation. Only movie metadata is sent.
NextAuth / OAuth — Authentication (Google Sign-In). Governed by the respective provider's privacy policy.
Google Analytics — Usage analytics. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
CineTrail does not currently display third-party advertisements. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated with details of any ad network used and the data practices involved, and users will be notified.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you at any time. Because CineTrail is an independent project, data requests are handled manually — please email hello@cinetrail.app with the subject line “Data Request” and we will respond within 30 days.
If you would like to delete your account and associated data, send the same request and your data will be removed from Firestore within 7 days.
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when changes are made. Continued use of CineTrail after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
